Case study · Wholesale & distribution

A wholesaler goes from phone orders to its own apps

Neem Karoli Sales, a beverage wholesaler in Jaipur, took every order over the phone and on paper. I designed and built the whole platform on my own: a shop app for retailers, a staff app for depot and delivery teams, a web admin and the API behind them.

01 The challenge

Orders arrived by phone calls and WhatsApp messages, were written on paper and re-typed into billing. Prices changed often, mistakes were common, and drivers had no clear list of what to deliver where.

02 What I built

  • A shop app where retailers browse the catalogue and order by the case, with prices always calculated on the server in whole paise so totals are never wrong.
  • A staff app for depot and delivery teams with an order state machine, delivery roles and live status updates.
  • Phone + OTP sign-in run by our own backend, with SMS and a WhatsApp fallback instead of Firebase.
  • Cashfree payments that are always re-checked against the gateway, and GST invoices generated as PDFs with HSN codes and the CGST/SGST split.
  • Self-updating Android apps outside the Play Store, with forced updates and the ability to pull back a bad release.

03 Results

  • Orders move from paper to apps, with every order, payment and invoice recorded
  • Shop app in Play Store closed testing
  • 1,290+ automated tests guard pricing, payments and order flow
  • Push-to-deploy with GitHub Actions on DigitalOcean
